Local officers
cracking down over
holiday season
'Tis the season to be
jolly, but be sure the
merrymaking doesn't end
in tragedy by
designating a sober
driver this holiday
season.
Homer Police Department will be looking for impaired
drivers in The Village
of Homer during the
holiday Over the
Limit.

crackdown.
From Dec. 19 to Jan. 4 Homer Police Department, along
with law enforcement
agencies from across
Michigan will be
cracking down on
impaired driving.
"When you're planning your holiday festivities, be
it Christmas or New
Year's eve parties, be
sure the plan includes a
designated, sober
driver," said Chief
Fisher. "When you
drive after drinking you
not only endanger
yourself and your
passengers, but everyone
on the road. Local
law enforcement officers
will be out in full
force to make this
holiday season a safe
one. If you catch
a buzz, catch a ride."
Local officers will join agencies statewide to step
up patrols. The
increased patrols are
funded by federal grants
from the Office of
Highway Safety Planning.
In Michigan, a motorist can be arrested for drunk
driving with .08 blood
alcohol content of
higher and that arrest
will cost you.
A drunk-driving conviction carries with it an
assortment of penalties,
including court costs
and fines, increased car
insurance rates, legal
fees and $2,000 in
driver responsibility
fees.
"Drunk driving can cost more than just money.
In 2007, 382 people were
killed in impaired
driving crashes, and
that is the ultimate
price to pay for a bad
decision," said Chief
Fisher.
Drunk driving crackdowns are conducted throughout
the year concentrating
on holiday weekends and
high travel times.
Last year over the
Christmas and New Year's
holiday there were 20
crashes on Michigan's
roads, of those nine
were alcohol and/or drug
related.

agencies can be found at
